Stained Glass Decor – Winding Staircase Niche

Stained glass decor totally transforms the awkward niche in the corner of our winding staircase. Since Canadian winters are way too long, I found a way to enjoy my pond all year long – by making one in glass. After installing it in the corner of our winding staircase, it became in indoor oasis! Today, I’m showing you some of the details on how I did it so you can add some ‘curb appeal’ to your winding staircase too! Continue reading

Industrial Pipe Shelf for Jones Soda Bottles

This industrial pipe shelf DIY was inspired by a trip we took to Dundurn Castle. On a beautiful summer day and I snapped a shot of a car that was being used for a wedding taking place on the grounds. On a whim, I posted the photo to the Jones Soda site on the off chance they would use it for one of the labels on their pop bottles. Continue reading

Filing Cabinet Planter – Indoor Gardening

A filing cabinet planter makes a great indoor display. You can’t have too many indoor plants during the winter time! They remind us of the new life and growth about to burst forth in the spring and give us something to look forward to! After seeing some shots on Pinterest, I was inspired to do an indoor garden of plants spilling out of card catalogue drawers. I so have a card catalogue, but it’s much too useful right now helping to organize a craft room! Continue reading

Shoji Screen Doors – Get the Look Without Glass

If anyone were to ask me what the biggest impact was in renovating our dining room space, I’d have to say the shoji screen sliding doors. They are like barn doors on steroids. A little more upscale, a lot less rustic, but essentially just like barn doors on a sliding track. We found a high quality mechanism to hang them. Then Hubs and a friend built them from scratch. Continue reading

Blue Jean Planter – Upcycle Your Jeans!

Do you want a unique idea for upcycling old jeans? Our Blue Jean Planter was a conversation starter when it was first posted on Facebook. It all started with a pool noodle and ended with a video that went viral with over 11 million Facebook views! Most people had a chuckle, but a few were startled. Either way, we love that people have such strong opinions about it 😉.

This is where our journey to making planters started, like these 10 Outside the Box Planter Ideas.

Muskoka Chair Challenge at Ontario Science Centre

Who doesn’t love a good throw down? Several year ago we had the opportunity to take part in the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) Muskoka chair challenge (or Adirondack chair as our neighbours to the south call it)!  The objective: to create a unique Muskoka chair that would appeal to OSC visitors during the summer months. Reupholster an Office Chair

Happy New Year everyone! For my first post of 2017 I have a tutorial to show you how to reupholster an office chair. You may have seen the embarrassing state of my office (one hour project organizing the office). My office chair was no better shape. When the tear in the seat looked like it was trying to run right out of the office, I knew it was time for a makeover. I relocated it to my craft studio to give it the Cinderella treatment. Continue reading

Bathroom Makeover DIY – Maximize Bathroom Space

Today we have a bathroom makeover DIY we recently completed in my Mom’s house. As we showed you in a reclaiming and maximizing space in the bathroom, renovating a bathroom gives you the ideal opportunity to maximize bathroom space. Mom’s bathroom has never been updated in the 30 years she’s owned the house. So it was high time for a reno. For us, it’s just as important to make the sure the space is as functional as it is beautiful. Continue reading

Picture Ledge DIY – Staircase Niche Decor Gift

This picture ledge DIY idea sprung out of this year’s reno project: finishing the basement. We recently completed my craft studio and have been working on the mancave too. It’s a testament to how you can upcycle scrap pieces wood into functional decor!

Hubs surprised me with this as a gift; made especially for the stairway leading into the basement. Before starting work on the basement, the stairwell was the drop zone for our central vacuum system accessories. Continue reading

Pallet DIY – Phoenix Rising Pallet Table

Our pallet DIY project was one of those things that was just meant to be. Phoenix rising is an apropos (and quite literal) way to describe the resurrection of this beautiful sewing machine table base! This upcycle is just like a phoenix rising from the ashes!  Continue reading
