PPG BreakThrough Paint Test

I’m testing PPG BreakThrough paint for an interesting outdoor decor project with Cutting Edge Stencils that I’ve been thinking about for a while. A few weeks ago, we found an object tossed to the curb that I thought would be great as garden decor.

It’s not often I do a ‘prequel’ to a project. Today’s post will give you a look inside the process of project development around here :). As is usually the case with our projects: (1) it’s not something I’ve ever seen done, so in typical Birdz of a Feather fashion we’re going to try before we fly! and (2) you know we’re going to be repurposing and upcycling a thing or two for the final decor project!  Continue reading

Adirondack Chair Head Pillow – DIY Neck Pillow!

Aside from spending more time with Hubs, this Adirondack chair head pillow is probably the best thing to come out of the stay at home order this year. Hubs hasn’t worked since March so I want him to take advantage of the opportunity to take it easy for change. If anyone deserves some rest and relaxation it’s him. But I bet you do too and I’ll show you how! Continue reading

Air Plant Holder DIY – Window Display

This air plant holder DIY is a solution to a very real problem if you like to grow plants but have limited space.

So how do you display air plants when space is an issue? Air plants don’t need just air, they also need a source of bright indirect sunlight too. That means they have to be within 3 feet of a window at most.  But that’s easier said than done in our house. You see, our house sits on a ‘zero lot line’. One side of our house has no windows at all, and the windows we DO have, don’t have enough floor space surrounding them to grow plants. Continue reading

Savoury Tomato Shallot Clafoutis

If you’re familiar with the work of Julia Child, you’ll probably already know that clafoutis is traditionally a french dessert made with berries. Today’s post is all about a technique we developed to get a really interesting faux barnyard look for a fraction of the cost. Steering Wheel Cover DIY- How I Crushed Hubs’ Car

This steering wheel cover DIY is inspired by a true life story: the day I intentionally crush my husband’s car. If you’re wondering how I came to upcycle a steering wheel and mount it on my wall, it all started with a simple question ‘What’s on your bucket list?’ That’s how this whole story began.

Mobile Card Catalogue: Add Wheels!

Do you remember the freedom you felt when you first got behind the wheel of a car? I felt the same way when we added wheels onto my favourite storage piece. Now it’s a mobile card catalogue!

Once my craft room was filled up with stuff, I knew I wouldn’t have a single blank wall to photograph projects against. The card catalogue is way too heavy to move but attaching wheels gives me options I wouldn’t otherwise have. Continue reading

Menorah DIY – Reusable Oil Burning Wicks

This menorah DIY is the second part or our shot glass upcycle. If you’re anything like me, you love the look of a real flame! A few years ago I discovered the beauty of oil burning candles. I previously posted a project on this shot glasses diy for oil burning candles but we’ve since taken oil burning wicks to the next level!

Up until now, oil candle wick options haven’t been overly sustainable. Sure it’s convenient to buy floating wicks, but you end up throwing away the metal tabs or cork disk. Continue reading
