Stone Patio Installation – a DIY Achievement

A stone patio installation is likely the most backbreaking work you will ever attempt. But it’s also the most rewarding DIY! That’s because the money you save on labour can be put right back into high end finishes and accessories. In our case, that high end finish is real Travertine. We fully intended to splurge on this stone but as luck would have it, the company was moving locations and it was on clearance! Better to sell cheap than to shlep it to the new location!

Installing real stone is as easy as pavers and looks so elegant when it’s done! So it’s nothing to be intimidated by! Continue reading

Needle Felted Duck – Got Any Grapes?

I’m dabbling with needle felting again with this needle felted duck. Hey! Got any grapes? Let’s see a show of hands for those of you who know the duck song? Don’t know it? Watch the quick video below and you’ll get the inspiration behind this adorable needle felted duck!

Before completing this adorable needle felted VW Beetle, I made this needle felted duck for my husband as a gift and it was huge hit (he might have mentioned it was the best gift ever)! As long as I’ve known him, Hubs always told the duck joke (the Duck Story is actually based on the joke). This project just brought it to life; complete with grapes! Continue reading

Wooden Chair Repair – Milk Painted Harp Back

Hubs purchased this harp back chair for me on a whim when he was picking up a sewing machine for his new vintage sewing machine repair hobby. I don’t think he realized that we were in for another wooden chair repair. Undoubtedly, he was too awestruck by the ugliness of the fabric to notice! But I would’ve bought it too! It has beautiful lines and that harp detail!  Continue reading

Air Plant Pods – Green your Decor!

These air plant holders, aka air plant pods, are great for displaying your air plants anywhere you’d like to hang them, like in a window or even on the fridge. I love thinking up new and different ways to display air plants (like this cement planter and air plant holder DIY.

I think they’d be a great gift for mother’s day, or gift for grandma! They’re easy enough to flatten and send along in the mail as a gift (without the air plant, of course)!

This project starts with some thrifted yarn and two sizes of loose-leaf binder rings. Continue reading

Needle Felted VW Beetle – Sweater Upcycle

This needle felted VW Beetle convertible has a secret DIY cheat! I love the shape and form of a VW beetle and was sad when Volkwagen discontinued them. They certainly had the cool factor going for them. So I’m going to show you how to sculpt your own out of wool!

After taking a beginner course in needle felting at my local stained glass studio just over a year ago, I quickly became enamoured with sculpting wool – and ‘breaking the rules’. When you’re new to a craft, it’s easy to get creative with your own techniques because you don’t know what you don’t know!

Crochet Pillow Cover – Crochet for a Cure

Looking to add a touch of cozy charm to your decor? A crochet pillow cover is the perfect way to combine comfort and style! With just a few supplies and your favorite yarn, you can create a custom cover that’s as unique as your space. Whether you’re a crochet beginner or a seasoned crafter, this project is a fun and creative way to upcycle or refresh your pillows for a warm, inviting look.

A few years ago, this past month was an emotional roller coaster for us as both our moms passed away from Alzheimer’s. While my mom was in palliative care, immersing myself in learning Tunisian crochet became a way to channel my sadness into something positive. As I worked on the design for the Kayla pillow, I would sit by her side, crocheting and keeping her company—a bittersweet memory that now holds a special place in my heart.

Kayla Pillow – Crochet for a Cure

My mom taught me to crochet when I was just six years old, sparking a lifelong love for all things DIY and craft. Now, it feels like everything has come full circle. In memory of our moms, we’re donating 100% of all pattern sales to support Alzheimer’s research. With spring on the horizon, it’s a season of renewal and fresh possibilities—something the Kayla crochet pillow cover beautifully represents!

Watch this brief intro to see what our passion project is all about:

How to Make a Cement Planter – From LED Packaging!

After teaching ourselves how to make a cement planter, it was only a matter of time before we came up with another ‘bright idea’! You might say it was a lightbulb moment :).

We hate to see anything go into landfill! So a few years ago when we changed all our lightbulbs from incandescent to LED, we kept the packaging. That’s because it doesn’t get recycled in our community and I knew I’d find a creative way to use it. Continue reading

This creamy lentil curry is one of those one pot wonders! It’s great as a side dish or over rice, but recently we paired it with delicata squash and discovered that lentil squash boats are a keeper! Another go to recipe for meatless Monday!

These also make a great side dish at Thanksgiving or any holiday where you want to substitute stuffing. Since we can’t eat ‘real’ bread, this is a great alternative to stuffing and a whole lot healthier!
