You’d never guess this chocolate cottage cheese pudding is healthy AND indulgent – or that it has a total of only three ingredients. Sounds suspicious, I know, but it’s shockingly good.
I’m even eating it for breakfast! And while it checks all the boxes for a high-protein diet, don’t be fooled; this creamy, chocolatey pudding is so satisfying, you’ll want to enjoy it anytime. A decadent treat that skips the guilt? Count me in!
Why am I even eating chocolate pudding for breakfast? Well, the latest chapter in my dental saga ended with losing a molar; despite a root canal and a biopsy trying to save it. Dental surgery is definitely not on my list of fun activities, and for a while, boring soft food was all I could manage.
Then fate, and my niece, stepped in. She made this chocolate pudding for a family get together I couldn’t really eat at, and it turned out to be the perfect soft, creamy comfort food. Talk about serendipity.
But this recipe is a keeper for many reasons. It also happens to be the perfect time to face the diet I’ve been avoiding for far too long. Since my health scare two years ago, my weight has crept up to 148 pounds; the heaviest I’ve ever been on my petite frame. So I set myself a goal to lose 28 pounds. And starting the day with protein-rich foods helps keep hunger in check. Wrapped in the form of chocolate pudding, it feels almost too good to be true, but it’s not!
A Word About Dairy
Before we get to the recipe, a quick PSA: if you ever find yourself joining the Tooth Extraction Club, you might want to skip dairy for a bit. It can contribute to inflammation, which is the last thing you want during recovery.
That said, I gave dairy-free living my best shot, for five whole days, before waving the white flag. Let’s just say there are only so many scrambled eggs and olive oil mashed potatoes one person can handle before dreaming of cheese in broad daylight and at night.

Chocolate Cottage Cheese Pudding
Now on to the recipe and the secret ingredient that helps make this chocolate dessert so rich and decadent.
The 3 ingredients you’ll need are cottage cheese (I like lactose free), Camino cocoa powder and the secret ingredient – Isoflex vanilla protein powder.
First, blend the cottage cheese in a food processor until perfectly smooth. Our Cuisinart mini-prep food processor is perfect for this task! Just big enough for a few servings.
Add the cocoa powder and protein powder.
Mix again until fully incorporated. You’ll need to scrape down the side to ensure all the dry ingredients are mixed in.
Scoop into serving dishes.
Ready to Eat
You could eat it right away (it doesn’t need to set up to thicken), or refrigerate for an hour. I eat one right away and put one in the fridge for the next day.
The best chocolate pudding is rich, silky, with just the right balance of sweetness and a velvety texture. That’s exactly what this is like! So decadent!
The recipe makes enough for two, but you’ll want to double or even triple the recipe if you want a ready made breakfast during the week.
In the few weeks I’ve been eating this for breakfast, I’ve already lost 8 pounds.
Want to know how I’m sticking to a diet this time around? I’m using the unpaid version of My Fitness Pal to track my food. The amazing thing? I can input the URL to our own recipes on The Unknown Chef and it literally calculates the calories, carbs, protein, fat for each serving! There are some amazing features but thankfully all the ones I really need are absolutely free.
I’ve found that tracking is the best way for me to reach my weight loss goals. While measuring and recording everything you eat can feel tedious at first, it becomes a lot quicker and easier with time.
Maybe by the time Christmas rolls around, I’ll be ready to splurge on this Christmas Bark Recipe and this ice cream sandwich recipe to get my chocolate fix. But honestly? Even if I only stick with this recipe, I won’t feel the least bit deprived.
