Rain on a Tin Roof

First up is Jenna. Jenna leads the parade at Rain on a Tin Roof where flying your freak flag is highly encouraged. She believes each room in your home should be filled with mad personality. You can find a picture of nude Burt Reynolds on a bear rug in her office. She put carpet on a wall in her bedroom, even though 1975 called and asked her not to. She believes black painted walls are always a good option, but has never turned her nose up at glorious colour either. She’s a live wire. Never expect to know what to expect from her – except the unexpected. She’s clear as mud like that.

Her bright and colourful mudroom screams spring, with its long lattice wall, but her little nook, with it’s drop zone for keys and mail has me drooling over the bird wallpaper (I didn’t call this blog ‘Birdz’ of a Feather for nothing, ya know?).

I love how she carried through the lattice in her black and white dining room. It’s a brilliant way to define the area without blocking the sidelines. It’s anything but boring with its pops of colour, textures and character.

What really caught my attention was the purple vanity in Jenna’s bathroom makeover. She’s a girl after my own heart: I also installed a purple vanity in the very first house I owned. But the really unexpected feature is the dog wallpaper. You have to see it!

The Aspiring Home

Joy at Aspiring Home has always been a HUGE believer in family and home. She creates and designs with budget in mind. Joy’s website is based on a simple truth. That a house becomes a home when it has roots and a family thrives if its members have wings, freedom to live out their purpose. Joy’s hope is that she can help her readers make a home that is both a haven and a launching pad that reflects her readers own passions and interests in a bright, bold and beautiful way.

I’ve always admired Joy’s giant DIY canvas frame that uses a drop cloth! I’d love to know more about how she painted her canvas :). Her modern studio apartment embodies her daughter’s vibrant personality. It’s young, hip but more importantly budget-friendly!

Joy’s DIY panelled glass cabinet is the crowning jewel in the bathroom. It takes the room from functional to fabulous with just a little added detail. It’s great to have a special area to display pretty bottles and luxurious towels!

If you’re longing for a backyard oasis, look no further than Joy’s 6 week backyard makeover reveal. As spectacular as it is, I was blown away by her large-scale turtle artwork – which started life as a shower curtain! But the piece de resistance is the colourful design she incorporated into old concrete pavers. It’s an idea I think I have to steal!

Reality Daydream

Nick and Bethany Sy are the creative free-spirits behind DIY/Lifestyle blog, Reality Daydream. They recently purchased a historic mansion and have been documenting the ups and downs of renovation and making this home their own… all while sharing tips and tutorials along the way! When they found themselves in the trenches of infertility, they started a journey that would prove to be their most important DIY project ever, and have 3 beautiful girls to show for it. Don’t you just love a happy ending?

As an avid gardening enthusiast, I was so excited to see how Bethany brought the outdoors in with her living wall vertical planter. It’s quite literally a breath of fresh air. The garden theme continues with her stained art wooden box. It’s a technique I’ve always been curious about and I’ve been dying to try it! The depth she was able to achieve with the succulent pattern is astonishing! The feature wall in her studio, however, is even more unbelievable. She took a blank canvas and created a feature wall by stencilling a patchwork design above a chair rail. She also created a similar FULL WALL effect with this herringbone patchwork accent wall. So much fun!

If you’re looking for an impressive way to display your own logo and business name, Bethany shows us that anyone can rock a scroll saw! The Wild Petunia sign she made for her friend looks so delicate. It’s stunning but totally doable.

Craftivity Designs

Lora, of Craftivity Designs, seeks to Create a Home that is simple, functional, and beautiful. As a busy mom of 2, she knows that creating a beautiful home isn’t just about looks. Rather, a home is created by the stories of its homeowners and the families who raised them. A home should tell those stories, and be practical for everyday life. Join Lora in Creating a Home that expresses your family’s personality and makes life simpler.

Lora really took advantage of keeping what worked in her beautiful vintage laundry room by using a dark green paint on the cabinets. With its original brass details, it a classic combination!

Something that I wish I had the courage to try before we made over our own fireplace was this German Schmear Brick technique. It does so much to brighten up the living room but still maintain the cozy cottage feel.

If you still haven’t gotten your feet wet with a DIY project, Lora’s granite backsplash installation is a great place to start. It’s a  beginner-friendly DIY with great impact!

Jessica Welling Interiors

Jess at Jessica Welling Interiors is a fearless interior designer & mama who loves to create fun, family-friendly spaces on a budget. Her modern colorful style comes through in everything she does- from letting her kids help draw the faux wallpaper in their bedroom, to an Ikea-hacked jellyfish chandelier.

Jess’ outdoor living room is just as plush, and welcoming as any indoor space! Complete with outdoor fire, it’s an urban oasis I’d never want to leave.

She shows you how to paint a large scale botanical mural that’s bold and beautiful. I’m so tempted to re-do our powder room to incorporate one too!

You may know that I’m crazy about succulents. Jess will show you how to style them like a pro. She has great tips on plants that are easy to grow indoors.

Her design studio makeover has me dreaming of the day I can have a light filled studio of my own again. I lost mine in a flood last Spring. We were going to rebuild my studio this Spring until we were sidelined, along with the rest of the world!

Who wants a free makeover? Jennifer shows you how you can shop your own house – for no-cost decorating! A little shifting around and creative vision is all you need. Or how about some free art? That’s right; head on over for your free abstract art printable.

Jen was motivated to makeover her bedroom when someone on Facebook made a negative comment about her space. People can be so harsh, but now Jen is enjoying her updated space! Check it out here.

The Boho Abode

Corinna is the the author and creator behind The Boho Abode where she loves creating beautiful bohemian interiors designed for living in. She is a free spirited, nature loving, eco friendly products, globally sourced goods admirer and advocate for fair trade kind of gal. She hopes to inspire others to create change in their life through decorating ideas, life tips, and recipes for a life of wellness.

I’m crushing on Corinna’s Boho Bedroom because I can relate to leaving the most important room for last and having such a small space to decorate.

Here’s a timely post: 15 Simple Way to Enjoy Being Home! You’ll see how I immediately related to Number 13 :).

I prefer to hide my crown jewels away, but Corinna has come up with a gilded floral jewelry hanger to put them all out on display and it’s so pretty!

Tag & Tibby

Julia is the designer and founder of Tag & Tibby: a website dedicated to DIY home projects, organization ideas, paint colors, and home related craft projects. She lives just outside Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband and two tweens. She enjoys inspiring readers to improve their home on a small budget. Her style is a eclectic with a blend of vintage, mid century, modern, and global.

I enjoyed Julia’s idea for her small organized laundry room. She’s maxed out every inch of the space :).

Her light and airy air plant wreath is a great way to display both greenery and a collection of seashells (both of which I have many)!

Then Julia tackles a problem we probably all struggle with: how to hide the myriad of wires  we all have thanks to technology! Spoiler alert – if you love mid-century modern inspired decor as much as I do, you’ll want to see this.

Her screened in porch is the perfect place to relax and chill out, but I’m not surprised her husband has commandeered part of the space for a secondary office 🙂

Dimples and Tangles

Jennifer of Dimples and Tangles has always said that her home is her hobby.  She enjoys sharing whatever current project she’s working on with her readers, whether it’s a DIY project, tablescape, room makeover, recipe, travel report, or her latest favorite fashion find.  She finds value in inspiring others to be creative in their own homes and to try new things.  Her style is grounded in traditional elements. But it’s livened up with a strong dose of bold color and mixed patterns and she loves to transform thrifted and second hand pieces to make them her own. A snapshot of her style in a few words might be: classic, colorful, chinoiserie, preppy, bamboo, gold, green, blue and white, bright, monograms, eclectic, and gathered and her favorite tools of choice are a staple gun, sewing machine, and spray paint!

Jennifer’s Jack and Jill bathroom reveal was a long time coming but oh so worth the wait. Her signature jewel tones are stunning! Her style continues onto the front porch and into the living room – boldly summed up with it’s a colourful life Spring tour. But her summer home tour is also a must-see, especially if you’re looking for staycation ideas around your own home this summer! It’s an entertainer’s mecca.

Casa Watkins Living

Stephanie is the owner and author behind the home and lifestyle website, Casa Watkins Living. Stephanie loves to create spaces and crafts that are full of color, have a modern bohemian inspiration infused with global flair, and have a plant or two….. or more!  Her appreciation for worldly cultures drives her design. And it inspires unique spaces that show global style with respect to the culture. This creativeholic hopes to inspire you to create spaces and complete diy projects to make your home they way you’ve always wanted.

Stephanie will warn you to get ready for picture overload, but I just can’t get enough of her modern white bohemian kitchen. What I love about Stephanie is her global take on decorating. Explore the outcome of two opposing styles, Bohemian and Scandi, with her Scandi glam bedroom refresh. It’s a counter intuitive design style for her – neutral and minimal – but I think it’s the perfect space to rejuvenate in! If you want to inject some global style into your space, check out her 10 global style DIY projects. I want to try them all!

Last But Not Least

I’m sneaking myself into the mix to make an even dozen. Maybe some of you are new to our blog and haven’t explored the full extent of our eclectic projects.

Birdz of a Feather is the nesting place that brings together hands-on DIY home and garden renos, crafts and gluten free recipes. Along with my ‘partner in grime’, I encourage you to feather the nest, one room at a time! A few years ago, I challenged myself to lead a more sustainable life by reusing items – whether thrifted, repurposed or kicked to the curb – in new and innovative ways. Since then, I’ve never turned back. While some people eat tuna for lunch and recycle the tin, I’m dreaming up ways to turn those tins into a swing out storage tower!

My personal favourites all happen to be garden related upcycles-turned-planters, such as this guitar planter, blue jean planter, phone booth planter and bathroom light fixture planter. Even this colourful point-blanket-inspired furniture makeover had its share of plants! But we’ve also swung the pendulum the other way with some hard-core renos like our staircase makeover, front and back ponds, our laundry room and engineered hardwood floor installation (to name just a few). If you’re ready to ‘get your DIY and craft mojo on’, feel free to browse Birdz of a Feather by category on the Home Page.

I hope you enjoyed some of my favourite picks from each and every one of these bloggers! There’s so much creativity and energy emanating from these pages. What blogs have you discovered lately? Feel free to share them in the comments.

Until next time, stay safe 🙂
